Digital cockpit

The technological disruption is transversal in the sense that it impacts all sectors of our society. Mobility is at the forefront of this change. In this context, technology brings promising solutions. And this, in several ways. At Softcom, we have been active in this sector for nearly twenty years. This experience has enabled us to develop all the business skills needed to meet the ongoing digitization needs of public and private transportation companies. This effort necessarily implies a modernization and reorganization of the company’s internal processes in order to provide the operational efficiency needed to offer more effective transport services adapted to the needs of the population.

It is with this in mind that we have set up our digital cockpit “Itera”.

But why and how?

As part of the modernization of the operations of their drivers, transport companies wanted to offer a unified navigation solution for consulting different sources of information. Among them, regulations, schedules, work plans.Until now, the driving staff had to consult this information in paper files. A time-consuming effort. Softcom therefore gathered all this data on a digital tablet.

In September 2015, we equipped the drivers and mechanics of the Fribourg public transport system with an iPad with the mobile application Itera. This digitalization of processes has considerably improved communication between the driving staff and the back office of the TPF.

Managing communication with public transport drivers simply and directly is now possible with Microsoft teams!

After integrating Microsoft sharepoint to manage documents in our “itera” digital cockpit, we’ve now gone one step further. Our itera 365 solution can now be integrated directly into Microsoft teams! The result is simple, direct access for drivers and managers via tablet, smartphone or desktop computer.

Today, this Itera digital cockpit is used by more than 7000 public transport drivers in Switzerland. Postbus, the MOB and TransN have adopted the solution. There are many reasons for this success. The Itera application is scalable and adaptable to the specific needs of each transport company. The information needed by the drivers is available with one click. But also in offline mode through the iOS app. As soon as there is a sufficient connection, the synchronization is done automatically in the background. Thus, Itera becomes the information center for all agents. Itera has been running for more than 5 years to the full satisfaction of our customers. The application will be further developed in the future.
