Smart metering

We value your energy data

The energy market is dematerializing. The energy market is digitalizing. Gone is the “traditional” architecture of the network industries; the future belongs to decentralized models that constitute micro-networks or microgrids. The massive and interconnected deployment of renewable energies in the electrical grid is significant challenges to energy distributors. The unpredictability of renewable energies, the advent of electromobility, and the installation of storage batteries are all factors that must be integrated into the dynamic management of the network. Achieving this requires innovative digital tools.

Smart meters play a fundamental role in the energy transition. In particular, they allow a better understanding of consumption behaviour and an improvement in energy efficiency thanks to smart meters every 15 minutes. For energy distributors, these smart meters refine their knowledge of consumption behavior, allowing them to better anticipate demand in order to balance production. Smart meters also provide access to targeted management of various devices such as water heaters or charging points.

The IT infrastructure managing smart meter data (Advanced Metering Intrastructure, AMI) is in full evolution. It must be integrated with different services such as customer portals, customer relationship management (CRM) system, or billing software. Smart meters communicate with meter data management (MDM) software integrated into the IT infrastructure. With this growth comes new requirements in terms of data integration, storage and management to meet current and future customer needs.

A single smart meter, transmitting data on a quarter-hourly basis, generates more than 35’000 values per year. In Switzerland, with about 3.9 million private households, this represents about 375 million values per day.

Thanks to its experience in the energy market and its integration skills, Softcom is positioned as a single point of contact to create global solutions around this new data. In particular, Softcom integrates the Data Hub Opinum product to value this data via several use cases:

  • Consumption and production prediction
  • Global MDM+ solution
  • Creation of specific business modules (VEE, ToU, ordres de service)
  • Flexibility management

As an example, you will find below an overview of the VEE business module (data validation, estimation and editing) implemented by Softcom in the Data Hub Opinum platform.

Our mission, at Softcom, is to offer you a complete range of high-tech services to help you stand out in the market liberalisation, the energy transition and the valorisation of your data.

It is with this in mind that we have entered into a partnership with Opinum by becoming the official Data Hub integrator for Switzerland.
