Microsoft Azure, a powerful toolbox for security and compliance

Our data in the “cloud”. The term summarizing the storage of the exponential production of digital data is quite poetic. In fact, the cloud takes the form of gigantic centers composed of thousands of servers that can host trillions of data. Photos, music, private videos and other files of all kinds make up these “famous clouds”.According to a 2019 report by Synergy Research Group, some 430 mega data centers are said to be in operation around the globe, with some 40 would be built in 2018 to manage this data economy. This fast digitalization is not without risks.

The most recent cybercrime cases, marked by massive data thefts, remind us how permeable the “cloud” is. More and more users are now concerned about the country where the servers hosting their data are located. Being aware of this security issue, several cloud players favor  local data center, i.e. in the country where these companies operate. This trend is confirmed in Switzerland. The major data center provider are multiplying their offers. Following the example of Microsoft.

Security at the heart of the solutions

With its Azure service, the Redmond technology giant has just inaugurated two data centers in Switzerland. One in Geneva. The other in Zurich. The American company offers its cloud services to companies, public administrations and NGOs. The objective of these openings is to offer Swiss companies and administrations the opportunity to keep their critical data in Switzerland while taking advantage of replication systems between the two data centers to ensure continuity of services in the event of an incident. Security is therefore at the heart of Azure solutions. Microsoft invests $1 billion per year in this area.
